7 Tips to Grow Your Hair Salon Business

Have Clear Goals That Excite You

This tip is important to ensure you know the direction that you want your salon to go in. Make sure you and your team are involved in creating clear, focused, and exciting goals! This will guarantee that you are all working towards the same thing, which will give your business the best chance of thriving! Sit down with your team once a month to create a mood board or simply to have a chat to find out what each team member’s strengths and ambitions are. In this way, you can keep your team motivated and come up with new services that your clients will love. A strong and bonded team creates a real buzz in the salon and will ensure a good vibe.

Enter Hair Competitions

Represent your salon brand and think BIG. Film trending content and post it on your social media and other channels! Improving your brand’s overall image and having content that will represent your salon can really motivate your team and help gain new clients. Hopefully it will also help you pick up some awards on the way to display in your salon. Check out our current trend section for inspiration. Do Your Bit for the Environment

Sustainability is a big deal right now and rightfully so! Make a positive change to the environment by sitting down and really thinking about your salon’s waste and the products you use. Salons tend to accumulate a lot of packaging from retail deliveries and thankfully most of this can be recycled in some way.  If you are not familiar with clean beauty, it may be time to finally get up to speed.  With both recycled and recyclable packaging, Revlonissimo Color Sublime™ formulas are always wrapped in recyclable aluminum paper from responsible harvesting (FSC), post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR), and low-environmental impact eco-printing designs.

Laundry and the cost of energy is also a big expense that unfortunately will continue to rise in 2023. However, you can cut costs by having a look at the new products on the market such as biodegradable towels, using less hot water, and remembering to turn the tap off between each wash. These smaller things really do make a huge difference in the long term. A good tip is to use cooler water after a conditioning service which will close the cuticles of the hair and help to increase the shine factor! Just remember to aim for the mids and ends and avoid the scalp unless you inform your client as they may not appreciate that cold scalp.

Use Less Product!

Educate your team on the rising costs and the appropriate amounts to use when it comes to color, styling, and backwash products. You may find that a lot of waste can be avoided by the team using the correct amounts and getting out every bit of that color from the tubes. There are even handy gadgets that you can buy to extract every last bit out of the tube! And, of course, turning those larger bottles upside down to get out every precious drop of products really matters. Backwash products tend to be overused and a lot of shampoo and conditioner can be saved if the products are used correctly. Towel drying the hair before applying conditioner and removing excessive water before heat protection not only means that hair gets all the benefits as they are not being diluted, but also saves money. It’s important to talk about this in a meeting rather than over a shampoo basin so that the team agrees with consuming less and delivering a better service to the client by using the products in the best way possible.

Build Relationships with Your Community

Now more than ever we need to collaborate with other businesses, join our fellow hairdressers’ journeys and participate in the local community. If you have free wall space, why not contact a local artist or photographer and let them showcase their work? This can bring the salon additional revenue and help you gain more potential clients who will walk in to view the work and may then decide to have a service in your salon. It’s a win for all involved that will spread the word and you can sleep better at night by knowing that you are actively supporting others.
