April 8, 2023

We know that there are an infinite number of highlighting techniques, from regular highlights to the famous face contouring but with so much information, it’s hard to decide which way to go. To help your clients decide, we are going to talk about the definitive trend for 2023 and how it can become your client’s distinctive feature. We are, of course,  talking about Caramel Balayage hair, the low-maintenance coloring technique that brings multidimensionality to  any mane. Let’s find out what caramel balayage is and how to get this trend this year.

Balayage Caramel Hair: The Trend For 2023

The balayage (French for “sweeping”) highlighting technique was created to allow colorists to illuminate hair freestyle. With this technique, colorists can freely create thousands of shapes to highlight the areas that your client wants to focus on. Balayage Caramel hair is a must in salon styling in 2023 because of its warmth, which gives maximum dimension to brown hair by adding warm, blonde strands (two or three tones above the base) and darker shades to tone it down (caramel, honey, hazelnut).

Caramel Balayage can also work for blondes. Not all blondes have to have cool tones. Balayage Caramel hair can (and should!) be done on blonde hair, taking into account the skin tone and style of each person. Lighter shades tend towards softer, silky-looking beiges, while darker shades will be done with golden, iridescent colors that add creaminess. XL manes are welcome!

How to Create Balayage Caramel Hair

The first thing to take into account is the base of the client. If the person has dark hair with grays, you should first cover those with a dark, warm dye at the roots like Revlonissimo Colorsmetique™ 5.3 and then perform the Balayage technique with the Magnet™ Blondes Ultimate Powder 9 to get the blonde up in the selected areas. Don’t forget to backcomb the locks where you are going to apply the lighter shade so that the gradient looks perfect. Don’t be shy about alternating very fine strands with some thicker ones. This way, the multi-dimensionality will come alive. We also recommend using the money piece technique, which creates a light frame around the front part of the hairline after using foils or other types of highlights.

The next step is the shading. For Caramel Balayage hair you should apply the perfect shade of caramel color to sweeten each person’s hair. After rinsing the hair, you should be able to spread the Revlonissimo Colorsmetique™ color very easily thanks to its creaminess. We recommend a mixture of the new 8DN with 8.3 to get a warm tone with lots of light. The result is healthy, shiny hair with a long-lasting shimmering color.

How to Maintain and Care For the New Color

To take care of new Balayage Caramel hair, you not only have to cut the hair regularly (as we always advise) but you also have to teach your clientele how to make their color last. With Nutricolor Filters™, this highlighting technique will stay perfect for longer and also make the hair healthy, shiny, and cuticle-sealed for a multi-dimensional color.

Styling Ideas and Inspiration for Caramel Balayage Hair

Once you’ve achieved the stunning Caramel Balayage hair color for your clients, it’s time to explore different styling ideas to enhance their overall look. Here are some creative and trendy suggestions to inspire your clients:

  1. Beach Waves: Create effortless, tousled waves using a curling wand or a flat iron. The contrasting shades of caramel and blonde in the balayage will add depth and dimension to the waves, giving a sun-kissed appearance.
  2. Braided Updo: Opt for an elegant updo with braided elements to showcase the caramel highlights. Incorporate small braids or a fishtail braid into a low bun or a loose, textured updo to highlight the beautiful color transitions.
  3. Half-Up Half-Down: Style the hair in a half-up, half-down hairstyle to allow the caramel balayage to take center stage. Tease the crown area slightly for added volume, and secure the top section with a clip or a hair tie for a chic and effortless look.
  4. Sleek and Straight: For a polished and sophisticated look, straighten the hair using a flat iron. The smoothness of the hair will beautifully showcase the caramel tones, giving a sleek and modern appearance.
  5. Messy Ponytail: Embrace a more relaxed and casual style with a messy ponytail. Gather the hair into a low or high ponytail, leaving a few strands loose around the face to frame it. The caramel balayage will add depth and texture to the overall messy look.
